The Trail is a walking tour of open artists’ studios. In total between 20 and 30 venues will be taking part; hosting a single artist or an entire group. Artists within The Trail area are invited to open up their workspace to the public, or be accommodated at pre-selected ‘host venues’ along with artists from outside areas. The idea is that you share your process in whichever way feels most natural. You might do this by working on an unfinished piece of work during the event, demonstrating techniques or equipment, or setting up workshops or activities, so people can try out your methods or style. We want everyone involved to have a really enjoyable and creative experience.
Similar trails have been running for some time overseas.
This UK trail is now in its 18th year, and is our international partner for this event.
SELECTION CRITERIA
In order to maintain a high standard in the quality of the work we accept, and due to the limited number of available venues, the process for choosing participating artists will be selective. We will be appointing a qualified and experienced panel to ensure that the process is carried out fairly and in accordance with our selection criteria.
We are most interested in artists and creatives whose work shows innovation of some sort, whether it be in its subject matter, format, concept, composition, design, materials, techniques or technology. We are looking for artists whose work will engage a public who want to see new and inspiring work. We would also like to achieve a balance between Maltese and international, young, old, new and experienced artists, whilst representing a wide range of disciplines and processes. We welcome everything from digital and photographic art, to sculpture, street and performance art, printmaking, painting, graphic and product design, as well as interesting combinations which defy classification.
Whilst we aim to include as many suitable artists as possible, please be aware that places are limited. Artists should apply by June 30th through the open call on this website, including five images of your work.
